About the Author

Jim Walters has been training and coaching people in fund-raising and support-raising for more than twenty years. While on the staff of a short-term missionary agency in Dallas in the 1980’s, he trained and led hundreds of people on mission-trip projects into Central and South America.

In the 1990’s Jim served as a church planter/strategist with the Southern Baptists, where he coached dozens of church planters in raising support through personal “deputation” letters and home visits. He has sponsored church plants of various kinds, from simple house churches to large suburban contemporary churches. Many of these church planters raised their first year’s support by using these very methods and systems.

Currently Jim serves as Senior Pastor of Bear Valley Church in Lakewood, Colorado. This church supports more than thirty missionaries around the world, which has caused Jim to read more missionary appeal letters than he wants to think about! He has coached missionaries in person on techniques to “upgrade” their missionary support, and has received nothing but positive feedback on that coaching.

Jim has led training seminars on these topics in several states with various denominational groups. Hundreds of his “handbooks” have been used by mission-trippers, youth pastors, church planters, and missionaries. His deeply held belief is that God has a ton of money that he has consigned to His believers, and part of the calling of every missionary, pastor, and church planter is to help these believers become better stewards by increasing their giving to missions!
